Removing Wrinkles with Botox

Filed under: Skin Care — Guest Post @ 1:10 pm

Wrinkles in your skin can be devastating and embarrassing to a certain degree, but also are a part of getting older and taking part in the natural process our bodies endure. The wrinkles that our face display are categorized into two parts; static and dynamic. Static are visible when your face is at rest and dynamic wrinkles appear temporarily when a muscle contracts during facial expression. These are usually found in areas of facial expression such as the forehead, between the eye brows and around the eyes. Some people develop static wrinkles at an earlier age than others and desire some sort of procedure to diminish those lines and improve the overall youthful appearance. Botox cosmetic injections help eliminate or decrease the appearance of dynamic wrinkles as it paralyzes the underlying muscle causing the wrinkle.

Botox cosmetic injections are not so effective on static wrinkles, which would be better treated with dermal fillers or surgically. Other areas to be treated besides the face and neck are migraine headaches and excessive underarm sweating. It is safe and effective treatment to compensate for the areas that you need the most help. Some side effects that may occur include; flu-like syndrome, headache, respiratory infection, nausea and temporary eyelid droop. You may experience pain and redness in the face and muscle weakness within the first week following the procedure.

The injection is inserted directly into the muscle causing the dynamic wrinkles, using a very small needle to minimize any major discomfort involved with this type of procedure. The whole treatment takes about ten minutes and results in a pretty painless and effective method to improve the facial features, diminishing the wrinkles. You can expect to see results within two to four weeks and they last from up to three to six months. The effects eventually wear off allowing the dynamic wrinkle to again appear. For best results, continued treatments are recommended and will lead to less frequent visits as the muscle causing the wrinkles become less responsive over time.

The cost of Botox cosmetic injections is one thing to consider, as all procedures express strong costs, depending on the frequency and importance the patient shows. It can range from several hundred to several thousand dollars, which also depends on the number of areas that are injected.

If undergoing with the procedure of Botox injections is considerable and right for you, it should be understood that not everyone will see the same results. Different people have different skin, each with its own tone and reactivity to certain treatments thrown its way. The way one person will respond to the procedure, another might not. Determine with your local skin care physician if the injections would be something worth investing in and spending money on. In most cases, it is a safe and effective method, with proven results. The procedure is also non-surgical, allowing the patient to go back to normal activities immediately. Any non-surgical treatment is worthy of looking into, knowing that results can instantly be seen, without the pain and down time surgery calls for.

Muscle Building: A Powerful Chest

Filed under: Muscle Building — Guest Post @ 8:06 am

When it comes to developing a bigger and stronger chest, the first exercise that comes to most peoples mind is the bench press. Although this is perhaps the fastest way to build muscle on your chest, there is another lesser known exercise that can really give you a much more powerful and broader looking frame. The manner of this exercise not only strengthens your chest, but it expands your rib cage like no other exercise, giving you that Hercules look.

So what’s the exercise? The fastest way to build muscle on your upper body and chest area is actually two completely different exercises combined together: breathing squats and pullovers. “Squats?” you say, “how the heck are squats going to give me big and powerful chest?” These are not just regular squats.

If you have read any of my other articles or my newsletters then you will know by now how much I favor breathing squats when it comes to gaining weight and building muscle mass, especially in a workout program for hardgainers.

The difference between breathing squats and regular squats is, evidently, the way you breathe. Here’s how you do them:

First: You can either do them with light weight or really heavy weight, depending on whether or not you want to increase your strength as well as your size and weight.

Second: Between each rep right before you go down, take at least three HUGE breaths. This is the most important point in this exercise. You must force yourself to inhale AND exhale as deep as you possibly can. Use your mouth instead of your nose so you can suck in as much air as you can.

Third: On the last breath before you go down, breathe all the way in and hold it as you go down, then when you come back up blow it out with all you got. Repeat for the rest of the set.

Fourth: After you get past the tenth rep, inhale and exhale at least FIVE times before each rep instead of three, the more deep breaths the better.

Immediately after your squats without taking any time to rest, flop down on or across a flat bench with a light dumbbell and do a set of 20 pullovers. As you lower the weight inhale as much air as possible, and as you bring the weight back up exhale. The purpose of the pullover is not to build strength or muscle but to stretch out your rib cage. So really focus on getting a good stretch when you lower the weight.

As you can see, the breathing in these exercises is the main thing. To make sure you are doing the squats correctly, really emphasize on filling your whole diaphragm with air so that your chest really sticks out after your inhale.

These two exercises together combined will really expand your rib cage and after a few weeks you will notice two main differences: your chest will look much larger and more powerful and you’ll be able to suck in a lot more air then you used to.

The best way to do these two exercises is just a couple sets of really high reps. My suggestion would be one set of 20 if you are using really heavy weight on the squats, or two sets of 20 if you are using light weight. Try getting to the point where you can count to at least 5 while inhaling and to at least 3 while exhaling.

Try these for a few weeks and you will notice tremendous size difference in your frame, mainly your chest and back. You will then be well on your way for that Hercules look.

How to Detox Your Body

Filed under: Detoxifying — Guest Post @ 12:15 pm

When you think of doing a whole body detox, there is a good chance that you are thinking about things like fasts and large changes in your habits that will be hard to effect. The truth is, a good body detox system doesn’t have to be difficult or inconvenient at all. Real detoxification can take time, and as long as you are moving towards your goal, you have nothing to worry about. You don’t have to plunge right in and live a whole new life; slow gradual change is the best way to really make progress, so take a look at some small ways that you can get started regarding a good, stable body detox system.

1.Drink water

This sounds like something that is quite simple to do, but you’d be surprised how many people are wandering around at least a little bit dehydrated. Your body needs water to perform basic metabolic functions, and without it, your body will start to shut down in little ways before shutting down in the big ones. When you are planning a full body detox, keep in mind that your water should be clean. Buy a filter and make sure that none of the chemicals in your tap water is hurting you or your family.

2.Start using baking soda

When you are thinking about a good body detox system, remember that a part of that is making sure that more toxins can’t reach you. There are plenty of toxins in the cleansers that we think are normal, so think about switching to something more friendly to a body detox program. Try sprinkling baking soda on the stains and see how easily they come out!

3.Plan out what you want to eat

When thinking about about a body detox diet, you are often told that you need to eat better, but what they don’t tell you is that good planning is at the heart of it all. Sure, we could all eat better if we had nothing else to worry about, but when you throw work, social commitments, children, pets and a hundred and one other things into the mix, finding the right body detox recipe ends up getting a pretty low priority. To make sure that you eat your greens, sit down and figure out how and when to pack your lunch; this is a great way to make sure that you don’t hit the vending machines at work.

4.Give the sauna a try

If you are at the gym already and you are finishing up a workout, you’ll find that you need to think about hopping in the sauna for a quick steam. Though you should take some time to think about how you feel about heat, you’ll find that the heat will help kill off things like harmful viruses and bacteria, and that you’ll be able to feel a great deal more clear and more alert when you step out. A steam room can really open up your skin and let the toxins out, and you’ll find that when you do this, you are in a great place for your body detox plan.

A practical and natural home body detox doesn’t have to be difficult or sudden; if you prefer, you can ease into it and really see the results!

The Truth About Fitness

Filed under: Exercise — Guest Post @ 11:45 am

If history has taught us anything, it is that when a business concept exhibits the potential for growth, companies and industries spread like a virus to expand and exploit the opportunity. From the meager beginnings of muscle-bound bodybuilders, steel barbells, medicine balls and once-a-day vitamins, the health and fitness industry has transformed into a multi-billion dollar juggernaut. Health and fitness professionals have evolved from spandex and headbands to being highly trained sales and marketing snipers. Your cash is their target.

Although the expansions of this industry and advances in modern technology have helped usher in a new era of quality health and fitness products, they have also opened the door for liars and con artists who could care less about your health. The trick is to understand how to maneuver through the marketing madness to find the truth.

Sadly, the number of people who fall victim to unrealistic quick-fix solutions is in the tens of millions. All the while, companies that sell ineffective products, cheap services and unrealistic results profit at your expense. Beyond the scams and rip-offs designed to separate you from your hard-earned cash, there are people, companies, industries and even government agencies with hidden agendas designed to sabotage your attempts to improve your health. It’s not a conspiracy theory; it is simply the undeniable truth that you will see once the facts are known.

There is no shortage of people who stand to profit from those who do not know the truth, and they will do everything possible to refute the facts. Just remember that when it comes to big business and their profits, the fix is in: billions are spent to keep consumers in the dark. You will need to rely on the one thing that marketing cannot spin — your common sense.

Let’s start with a simple truth that helps feed the big, fat health and fitness lie. That truth is that the average person would much prefer to go on a diet or take a pill rather than exercise. This is why the fitness industry at $19 billion in annual revenue pales in comparison with the diet and weight loss industry, which exceeds $40 billion. Even the supplement industry, with more than $20 billion in annual revenue, outperforms the fitness industry.

Yet with a success rate of sustained weight loss as low as 5 percent, more than 50 million Americans line up each year to go on a diet. Why? The answer was simple. When people think about exercise, they relate it to work. Even the phrase we use to describe exercise is to “work out.” The truth is that the average American spends the majority of waking life working. Who wants more work? We want to play. We want to relax. We want to escape from the reality of work, Exercise is the last thing we want to do. Instead, we want a shortcut, and the desire for a quick fix is an open invitation for health and fitness parasites. But this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The smoking gun that reveals the real truth about the state of health in the U.S. is the stratospheric revenue within the pharmaceutical industry. Between 1995 and 2005, prescription drug sales increased by 249 percent to a staggering $251 billion on more than 3.6 billion prescriptions written annually. This doesn’t include the $17 billion we spent on more than 100,000 over-the-counter drugs that contained in excess of 1,000 chemical compounds.

As you peel back the layers of the lie, you quickly realize that these record-breaking numbers were made possible by drugs that treat conditions and diseases, which are largely self-inflicted or forced upon us by accomplices that stand to profit from our ill health.

Eating Berries for Health

Filed under: Eating — Guest Post @ 10:10 am

Ah Berries. They are truly one of nature’s most perfect foods. They taste delicious, look wonderful and are chock-full of health benefits. Amazing health benefits! Berries should be eaten fresh if possible and to maximize the health benefits you should try and buy organic berries. The health benefits can also be maximized by juicing fresh berries.

But what exactly are the health benefits of berries?

Let’s take a list of the most popular berries and quickly bullet-point the health benefits…

Strawberries

*Rich source of polyphenols (anthocyanins)

*Help protect against cancer

*Help protect against heart disease

*Natural anti-inflammatory properties

*Protection against rheumatoid arthritis

Blueberries

*Blueberries have the highest antioxidant content of almost any fruit

*Loaded with anthocyanins

*Can help slow-down the aging process

*Promotes urinary tract health

*Protect the cells from free-radical activity

*Could help to prevent Alzheimer’s disease

*Help to improve brain-function

*Contains ellagic acid which can help prevent cancer

*Could help protect against colon cancer

Cranberries

*Chock-full of antioxidants and phytonutrients

*Contain proanthocyanidins that can help prevent disease

Blackberries

*Loaded with antioxidants and phytonutrients

*Excellent source of vitamin E

*Can help fight infection

*Contains high amounts of tannin and phenolic acids

Raspberries

*Great source of ellagic acid which can help prevent cancer

*Loaded with phytonutrients, antioxidants and tannins

*Could help prevent cancer and other degenerative disease

I am often asked, “What is the healthiest of the berries?” This is a good question. All berries are fantastically healthy, however; if I had to eat just one type of berry I would definitely choose the remarkable blueberry. Blueberries could possibly be one of the healthiest foods on the planet. They have what is believed to be the highest antioxidant content of any fruit and a plethora of other health benefits. But this does not diminish the healthy benefits of the other berries.

Here are some tips on buying berries…

1. If you can, try and buy organic berries as these will be free of harmful pesticides and other chemicals

2. Try and buy berries that are plump and brightly colored as these are ripe and loaded with phytonutrients

3. Avoid berries that look overly soft or that are bruised

4. Try and use berries soon after purchasing them as they can go bad quickly ‘especially organic berries

5. Always cover and refrigerate berries

If you want to take advantage of the health benefits of berries but are finding it difficult to consistently eat fresh berries, there are some supplement options that can deliver the benefits in a powder or liquid form. But like most health products you need to educate yourself and beware of the many hype-driven, low-quality products that exist.

There has been so much media attention given to berries lately that legions of berry-based supplements have popped up on the shelves of grocery stores and health food stores seemingly overnight. The majority of these are not worth your money because they contain just a smattering of berry powder and you would have to consume obnoxiously large quantities to get any real health value.

The supplements you should target are those that are powders or actual juice. Look for high potencies and keep two critical factors in mind. The first factor is you want to look for supplements that use organic produce. This ensures the integrity of the bulk ingredients and ensures that there are no harmful pesticides and other chemicals. The second factor to look for when shopping for berry-based supplements is that the source of the berries are juice extracts as opposed to berry powder.

The difference between the two is enormous. Berry powder means that they take a whole berry, freeze-dry it and then grind it up ’skin and all. Berry powder is not bad for you; it just limits the amounts of phytonutrients you are getting. Juice extracts, the highest quality source of berry ingredients, means the berries are actually juiced and then the juice is freeze-dried. The phytonutrients and phytochemicals are found in the juice of the berries, not necessarily in the skin and leaves.

Keep in mind however, that buying supplements that contain organic, juice extracts is going to cost you more because the produce is more expensive and the process more tedious. But the extra money spent means you are getting the maximum health benefits from the supplement. Visit our website to learn more about whole-food, super-food supplements.

Berries are some of nature’s most perfect foods. Whether you eat them fresh or take berry-based supplements, do yourself and your body a favor ‘keep eating more of them.

The Role of Calcium in Weight Loss

Filed under: Weight Loss — Guest Post @ 9:10 am

Calcium is a major mineral known mainly for its role in bone metabolism. In addition, calcium is the best-selling mineral supplement on the market. Among reasons for purchase include:

• Positive effects on bone mineral density and mitigation of osteoporosis

• To improve body composition

Lipolysis is the breaking down of body fat and lipogeneis is the body’s mechanism of storing fat. The theory is low calcium intakes inhibit lipolysis and increases lipogenesis. High calcium intake has been reported to increase lipolysis and decrease lipogenesis. If this theory is correct, calcium supplementation is a good step toward improving body composition.

So far in research it seems that higher calcium intakes that are usually combined with a lower energy diet, can lead to weight loss.

Some researchers report that low-fat dairy has the best impact on weight loss; however, a 2003 study suggests that the calcium’s source is not as important as the quantity of total calcium intake.

A 2006 meta-analysis by R. Trowman, Ph.D, reported no effects of calcium on weight loss. At the end of the study, Dr. Trowman reported no relationship between increased intake of calcium, either by supplements or dairy products, and weight loss. They also reviewed the literature on calcium and weight loss. G. Barba, Ph.D, and P. Russo, Ph.D., stated that available data did not definitively support a relationship between high calcium and/or dairy intake and decreased body weight. They indicated the need for more research of the impact dairy foods have on health outside of obesity.

Based upon the existent research it looks as if some studies do show positive effects of increased calcium intake on weight loss in obese or overweight individuals, however, a number of randomized controlled studies have not. No magical formula has been discovered, however, there may be individuals who respond better to calcium’s effects on fat metabolism during decreased energy intake compared with other. There is need for a well-controlled study assessing responders versus non-responders as a first step in evaluating if calcium impacts body weight in some individuals more than others.

Of equal importance is to note that a person’s source of calcium influences his or her body composition and weight. For example, you cannot consume gallons of ice cream or nonfat milk and expect to lose body weight. Many of the studies that showed calcium’s effects on weight loss also included the element of reduced energy intake.

In conclusion, the recommendation to increase calcium intake should not be made until a person’s dietary assessment has been made. In addition, overweight or obese individuals who are interested in working toward better health should consider increased calcium intake along with an overall healthier lifestyle.

There is a need for more research on the subject of increased calcium intake solely for the purpose of losing excess body weight and/or to improve body composition.

There are many thousands of patients of hemorrhoids that are seeking a home hemorrhoid cure for their problem since they may be afraid of, or may simply not wish to see a doctor about their hemorrhoids. As time has gone by, inventive souls have come up with home hemorrhoids cure that really do work, and all that remains is finding which one is most suitable in a particular instance as all cures may not suit each and every individual being.

A simple home hemorrhoids cure is to apply vitamin E to the hemorrhoids for which a Vitamin E capsule containing liquid should be used. Breaking this capsule into two equal pieces, you can then take the liquid and apply directly on the hemorrhoids, which will help in healing your condition a lot sooner.

Cures

Sometimes, the hemorrhoids condition may be no more than temporary for which warm sitz bath cold compresses or even topical analgesics should suffice.

A long-term hemorrhoids cure that does not require undergoing surgery is known as Venapro that is useful in that it will provide the patient with fast as well as effective relief, and it is an anti-inflammatory formula in which herbal extracts are used that act fast in relieving pain as well as alleviating discomfort through a betterment in the venous circulation. Isotretinoin for Acne

Filed under: Skin Care — Guest Post @ 10:31 am

Isotretinoin is considered to be most effective medicine for severe acne and other acne that does not respond to common acne medication. It is available in form of capsules to be taken orally and the trade name of Isotretinoin in the USA is Accutane. Isotretinoin is a retinoid. Retinoids are derived from Vitamin A. Isotretinoin is chemically known as 13-cis retinoic acid. Isotretinoin is a drug of choice for acne patients who may have lost hope about cure of their acne.

Isotretinoin is generally prescribed for 16 to 20 weeks and the end of the prescription sees considerable inmprovement in most of the patients. Isotretinoin may cause many side effects and should be strictly taken under medical supervision. It can cause birth defects in fetus. Therefore women should take precaution of not getting pregnant while taking Isotretinoin. Isotretinoin may also be used for some other conditions that include- folliculitis, seborrhoea, chloracne and other diseases that look like acne.

Usage-

Nodular acne that does not get treated with other medications is treated with Isotretinoin. Any other acne that does not respond to medication is also treated with Isotretinoin. The rate of success with Isotretinoin is very high. In the beginning some people see deterioration in their acne but that slowly disappears. Isotretinoin is commonly prescribed for 16 to 20 weeks and if needed it is repeated after a gap of eight weeks.

It is believed that Isotretinoin works by shrinking the sebaceous glands and reducing sebum production. Isotretinoin is an anti-inflammatory medicine and shrinks the acne by reducing sebum substantially.

The strength of dosage of isotretinoin depends upon the severity of acne, body weight, other treatments being used at the same time etc. Your doctor is the best person to decide about the dose. Normally the treatment begins with small dose and as body adjusts to isotretinoin the dose is increased. Doctors also monitor the cure during this period and if they find that patient is not responding, they may stop the therapy. As isotretinoin needs fat to help its absorption in body, it is taken after food. Follow your doctor’s advice about these.

Side Effects

The common side-effects of isotretinoin are dry mouth, dry nose, thinning of hair, fatigue, dry skin, red itchy eyes, sore lips, etc. If you experience any other side effects such as muscle aches, difficulty in walking, depression, vomiting, etc. Talk to your doctor immediately. Discuss about side effects with your doctor before beginning of the treatment with isotretinoin and report any expected or unexpected side effect immediately. Note that you may not be able to wear your contact lenses for some time in the beginning of treatment with isotretinoin. You should not donate any blood while you are taking isotretinoin and for one month after you stop taking it. Please talk about do’s and don’t with your doctor. You also must inform your doctor about any medicine or vitamins you are taking.

Isotretinoin and Pregnancy-

Isotretinoin can cause serious defects in the fetus. Therefore you should inform your doctor if you are pregnant. You should also tell your doctor if you plan to become pregnant or are already breast-feeding. You will have to test yourself for pregnancy before you begin isotretinoin and continue getting tested while taking Isotretinoin. Your doctor will explain the details to you. If you get pregnant while taking isotretinoin you should stop taking it and call your doctor immediately. You must adopt two reliable methods of birth control for one month before taking isotretinoin, continue with two methods while taking isotretinoin and till after one month of stopping isotretinoin. You should talk to your gynaecologist and dermatologist in detail before taking isotretinoin.

Top Ten Diets

Filed under: Dieting — Guest Post @ 8:47 am

There is no shortage of weight-loss ideas out there, especially for those who dread exercise and eating right. Fad diets, which usually focus on one type of food or category of food, have become popular in recent years. But there’s a difference between a fad diet and a healthy diet that optimizes weight loss. And while pills may be a big thing now, they don’t offer the one thing that a dieter needs: the ability to make wise choices. Top 10 diets like the Sonoma diet and the South Beach diet not only provide healthy eating choices, they help followers change their eating habits. The following diets have been studied by doctors and dieters alike:

1. South Beach Diet: This has a lot in common with the once-popular Atkins Diet. Created by a cardiologist, this three-phased diet involves temporarily giving up fruit, starches, and fatty meats, which is meant to cure the craving for unhealthy types of foods.

2. Sonoma Diet: This is another three-phase diet, but this one emphasizes ten “power” foods, including tomatoes, grapes and spinach. It’s not a low-carb or low sugar diet, but does limit saturated fats and white flour.

3. NutriSystem: Of the top 10 diets, this program is the only one that requires dieters to buy their food from the company. It serves to reduce cravings through controlling the intake of glycemic index carbs.

4. Weight Watchers: This is not a diet but a way of life. Individuals determine goals, and work toward completing those goals while attending regular support group meetings. There are two different plans, the core and flex plans. They both work off of a point system, with each food afforded a different value.

5. The Zone Diet: This isn’t a “diet” in the traditional sense either. It was invented by a biochemist, and promotes eating protein and carbs in a 3 to 4 ratio. While it is a low-carb diet, it doesn’t take it to the extreme that other diets do. The Zone Diet emphasizes the importance of maintaining a hormonal balance through eating certain foods.

6. Atkins Diet: Perhaps the most popular of the low-carb diets, Atkins brought people away from the food pyramid and toward a diet that restricts carbohydrates that effect blood sugar. With exercise and supplements, the Atkins Diet stresses the importance of eating unprocessed foods and avoiding food high in saturated fats.

7. Ornish Diet: This diet opposes the Atkins and other low-carb diets. It is a vegetarian diet which stresses the importance of complex carbohydrates while strictly prohibiting simple sugars, cholesterol and saturated fat. It is another ratio diet, with 10% fat, 20% protein and 70% carbohydrates.

8. The Blood Type Diet: This is a controversial diet that works off the idea that each person should eat foods that match their blood type, based on the evolution of the types. Proponents of this diet believe that “O” types should eat primarily meat. “A” types should be following a more vegetarian diet, and “B” types should eat high amounts of dairy products.

9. Fit For Life Diet: Short term dieting isn’t the solution, according to the couple who created this diet. Combinations of foods are stressed. Only fruits should be eaten in the morning, and meats shouldn’t be combined with complex carbs.

10. Subway Diet: The list of top 10 diets wouldn’t be complete with this diet. Everyone seems to know Jared, the college student who lost 245 pounds eating Subway sandwiches. But is it really a diet? As with other weight-loss plans, Jared’s story includes daily walks and a severe reduction in daily calories, in addition to eating healthy subs with fresh vegetables and baked chips.
